• Readings from Chicago-based author Kyle Beachy (The Slide) and Brooklyn-based author Amy Shearn (How Far Is the Ocean from Here and just-released The Mermaid of Brooklyn).

• A conversation between the two authors regarding their novels, the writing process, skateboarding, major American cities, and much more.

• Cold beverages.

Kyle Beachy is the author of a novel, The Slide (The Dial Press), and is an Assistant Professor at Roosevelt University, where he teaches creative writing and lectures on American literature. He is also a contributing editor at MAKE Magazine; his collaboration with graphic novelist and illustrator Anders Nilsen is featured in the upcoming issue themed “Visual Culture.” Visit him at http://www.kylebeachy.com/

Amy Shearn is the author of How Far Is the Ocean from Here and The Mermaid of Brooklyn (Touchstone / Simon & Schuster). She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and the University of Minnesota’s MFA program.
